Opportunities for Giving this Holiday Season

  • Haverhill Elementary School - Meijer and Walmart gift cards in any denomination will be given to Haverhill families who could use a little help this season. Cards are distributed at the discretion of the school principal. Portage Chapel Hill has had a long partnership with the administration of Haverhill Elementary School.
  • Helping Hands Contributions - Helping Hands is a fund that is used at the discretion of the pastors for folks who need financial assistance throughout the year.
    • To give to the Helping Hands Fund, CLICK HERE and find "Helping Hands" under the Faith In Action section.
    • You may also give Meijer or Walmart gift cards in any denomination. Gift cards are kept at the church and given out any time someone needs a little help.
  • Refugee Resettlement - Portage Chapel Hill has partnered with Bethany Christian Services to welcome an Afghan family of 7 to the Kalamazoo area who recently fled Afghanistan amid political unrest. There are two ways to support this mission:
    • Make a financial gift to the Refugee Resettlement Fund by CLICKING HERE and finding "Refugee Resettlement" under the Faith In Action section. Money will be used to purchase groceries and household items for the family as they move into permanent housing.
    • Give your time by joining the Refugee Resettlement Action Team. Folks are needed who are able to drive family members to appointments, tutor school-aged children, help with English language learning, or to help the family with navigating life in America. To join the team or to learn more about what is needed please contact team co-chairs Joelle Ibanes at jdibanes@gmail.com or Carolyn Pesheck at cvpesheck@sbcglobal.net.
  • New, Unwrapped Toys - Director of Children's Ministry Andrea Trantham is encouraging families with kids to donate toys for the Advent season. Toys will be delivered to several area agencies, including Toys for Tots, Sunnyside UMC's Free Store, and Haverhill Elementary School. There is particular need for gifts for teenagers!
  • Underwear and Warm Clothing - Ministry with Community is collecting new packages of underwear, thermal underwear, gloves, scarves, and hats to give to the un-housed in our community. You may bring these items to the church and we will deliver them to Ministry with Community.

Labeled collection bins will be available in the church lobby on Sunday mornings, or you may drop off items at the church office Monday - Thursday 9 am - 2 pm. If you have any questions please contact the office at (269) 327-6643 or email office@pchum.org.
