Faith in Action

Our Church Did All That?

In January 2021, Portage Chapel Hill Church's Faith In Action Team (FIAT) put together a report to submit to the Michigan Conference of the United Methodist Church to highlight what Chapel Hill has done for the Engage MI program. Traditionally, when churches engage in missions they often use a "ministry to" model of giving, where the church gives a one-time transactional donation or service to another organization. Through the Engage MI program, the Michigan Conference of the UMC challenges congregations to switch to a "ministry with" model of giving, where churches enter a longer-term partnership with organizations focused on helping vulnerable people and communities, forming lasting and valuable relationships.
