Kalamazoo Service Project - July 17 - 21, 2023
WHO: Rising 7th graders through high school seniors AND adult volunteers (see info for adult volunteers below)
WHAT: KSP is a service learning project in Kalamazoo County. Teams are assigned of 5-6 youth and two Safe Place certified adults. We meet at Kalamazoo 1st United Methodist Church (212 S. Park St., Kalamazoo 49007) at 8:30 am, have a devotional and load up. We work from 9ish-4:30 pm on a community project (building a ramp/Sunnyside garden, etc.) Everyone brings their own lunch. We get back, unload, have an evening gathering and dinner and are done about 6:30-7 pm.
WHERE: Kalamazoo 1st UMC in downtown Kalamazoo is our home base -- we’ll have an evening here at Chapel Hill this year as well.
WHEN: July 17 - 21 -- There will be a worship service July 16 in the evening, AND due to high demand, we’re having an all KSP lock-in at Kalamazoo 1st UMC Thursday evening into Friday. KSP will end Friday after breakfast around 9 am.
HOW MUCH: $100, and there’s a link to pay on the sign-up form. If you need a scholarship please contact Pastor Jess!
Adult Leaders are needed
If you’re free the week of July 16-21 and age 20+, please consider joining us! We had a phenomenal time last year, and are sure this year will be just as meaningful. Please email Pastor Jess Davenport if you might be interested in any of the following positions:
- Crew Group Leader (12 needed):
You and another Crew Group Leader will be assigned to one work crew throughout the week. You will oversee the project, ensuring the youth are able to do the work required. You will teach and learn. You will mediate and navigate challenges. You will invite youth to discover their potential through these projects.Time requirement:

KSP Week ALL DAY 7:30 am- 6:30 pm July 17th-20th (pancake breakfast on Friday).
- Floating Group Leaders (5 needed):
You will work as a team to set up evening activities, fun day activities, lead some of the Evening Programming, and help out on crews where needed. This is still an all day servant leader position, but there is more flexibility if you have some non-KSP tasks during the day.

- Supply Coordinators (1-2 needed):
You will visit sites to help troubleshoot issues. If folks need more supplies, you’ll head to the hardware store to snag them.Crew leaders will check in with you at the end of the day to share what they need for the rest of the week and you can make a supply run before dinner OR early the next morning.Time requirement:
